I spent weeks backtesting a strategy with a hard stop. Then a single red candle appeared, I told myself "this time is different," and manually closed the trade. I knew exactly what I was doing and did it anyway. To fix this, I completely removed myself from execution. My own alerts now fire directly to the broker, and the equities side runs on Kronos Trading: a fully automated strategy that's non-custodial and executes straight inside my personal Alpaca account. The urge to manually close early hasn't disappeared. Good code doesn't erase human psychology, but automation stops me from acting on it and ruining my edge.
