For BYD investors, growing vehicle sales are a great sign, especially considering management has targeted overtaking Toyota as the world's top-selling automaker. But finding customers outside a fiercely competitive home market might be even more important. The automaker's September vehicle sales increased approximately 17% year over year. That figure pales in comparison to its overseas shipments of passenger vehicles and pickups, however, which soared roughly 154%. That's a massive difference. One business is jogging along, while the other apparently found a pile of ice cold energy drinks. For long-term investors, the overseas growth story deserves attention beyond another impressive sales headline.
