Once considered a long shot in the AI race, Anthropic has zoomed ahead of rival OpenAI on multiple fronts. Anthropic now has higher run rate revenue, after reporting revenue of $16.8 billion for the third quarter at a recent investor update. The AI start-up is also on track to beat OpenAI to the public markets, as it's expected to go public in November, while OpenAI is now delaying its offering until 2027, choosing instead to raise more money privately. Anthropic is also profitable on an adjusted basis, while OpenAI is deeply in the red. Given its success, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has emerged as a top leader in AI, and he famously predicted that the technology would exceed human capacity at most everything by 2027 or 2028.
