Tesla's Free Cash Flow Just Turned Positive. Here's Why That's Only Half the Story.

Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) third-quarter earnings report came with at least one notable surprise -- the company announced that it generated $1.53 billion in free cash flow, just one quarter after burning through more than $1 billion in cash. But before investors get too excited, there's something important buried in those numbers. Tesla's free cash flow fell 62% from a year earlier, and the positive result was largely due to lower capital expenditure (capex) than forecast.
