Why does the greed keep growing?

You know how you start out hoping to make 20% then suddenly that’s like nothing and you want 50% return then that’s still not enough and it’s nothing if you don’t 2-3x your investment. And then you realize you’re not able to quit your job yet unless you can 5-10x your money and the greed just keeps growing and growing. Is that just human nature? Is that how we want to live life?
