Palantir (NASDAQ: PLTR) has become a phenomenally successful investment for longer-term shareholders, but also one that is difficult for new buyers to jump into. The stock is up about 25-fold from its December 2022 low. However, its elevated valuation also makes it risky to buy at current levels. Long-term investors often buy stocks planning to hold them for a minimum of five years. Given that, it may be useful to speculate about where this stock could trade in 2031 and where that outcome would leave the value of a $5,000 investment made in it today. Although a lot could happen during that time that would dramatically alter any forecast we make this month, I think investors should prepare for significant struggles alongside the company's growth.
