Reddit ($RDDT) Stock Thesis - $200 2027 Price Target

Reddit ($RDDT) – Investment Thesis Investment Disclosure I am currently invested in Reddit (NYSE: RDDT), and a large portion of my investment portfolio is allocated toward the stock. I previously published a post discussing my Reddit investment thesis approximately one week ago, but I am updating it to reflect the significant developments and changes that have occurred over the past week. This represents my personal investment opinion and should not be considered individualized investment advice. Introduction I believe Reddit is a fast-growing company with expanding profit margins, increasing user growth, and significant long-term potential. I also believe potential AI licensing agreements could materially benefit the company over the coming year and beyond. Recent developments surrounding Google's search referrals to Reddit have negatively impacted the stock price, as investors have grown increasingly concerned about Reddit's ability to sustain user growth amid changes in Google's search algorithm and referral traffic. While these concerns are worth monitoring, I believe the resulting market reaction presents an opportunity for long-term investors who remain focused on Reddit's underlying fundamentals and long-term growth potential. Sections Covered Reddit's Differentiated Value Proposition, User Growth & Monetization Google & Reddit: Search Traffic, Algorithm Changes & Platform Dependency Reddit's Advertising Evolution & Monetization Potential Financial Metrics AI Licensing Revenue Risks Conclusion & Price Targets 1. Reddit's Differentiated Value Proposition, User Growth & Monetization I believe Reddit continues to offer a unique value proposition that becomes increasingly valuable as the internet moves toward AI-generated content. It is becoming increasingly rare to find platforms where people actively contribute original thoughts, experiences, opinions, and discussions. Reddit remains one of the few major platforms where this type of human-generated content exists at scale. Reddit also offers an incredibly diverse collection of communities, subcategories, backgrounds, interests, and demographics from all over the world. These communities and conversations provide a breadth of information and perspectives that are difficult to replicate on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. I believe this differentiation is an important part of Reddit's long-term competitive advantage, particularly as AI-generated content becomes more prevalent across the internet. User Growth Global DAUq: 130.3 million in Q3 2026, unchanged from Q2. +12% year over year. U.S. DAUq: 50.7 million, down from 53.2 million in Q2. -4.7% quarter over quarter. Global WAUq: 515.2 million in Q3 2026, up from 514.6 million in Q2. +16% year over year. U.S. WAUq: 188.5 million, down from 197.2 million in Q2. -4.4% quarter over quarter. Revenue Per User (ARPU) United States: $13.82, up from $9.04. +53% year over year. International: $2.43, up from $1.84. +32% year over year. Global: $6.87, up from $5.04. +36% year over year. 2. Google & Reddit: Search Traffic, Algorithm Changes & Platform Dependency Google has historically been one of Reddit's largest sources of referral traffic. However, that relationship appears to be changing significantly as Google evolves its search experience and incorporates AI-generated answers directly into search results. I believe these challenges represent a temporary headwind rather than a long-term threat to Reddit's business. The vast majority of Reddit's monetization comes from logged-in users rather than logged-out visitors arriving through Google search referrals. While declining search traffic could temporarily slow user growth, I don't believe it fundamentally changes Reddit's long-term growth potential. Key Developments Declining Search Referrals: Reddit experienced significant declines in Google search referral traffic during Q3, with losses accelerating into October. AI Search & Algorithm Changes: Google's AI Overviews, AI Mode, and evolving search algorithms are reducing organic visibility and the need for users to click through to Reddit. International Traffic: Reddit believes changes to Google's search rankings have particularly impacted its machine-translated international content. User Growth Concerns: Management warned that continued search referral declines could result in a low-double-digit percentage decline in total DAUq during Q4. 3. Reddit's Advertising Evolution & Monetization Potential Reddit rolled out Reddit Max in September 2026, making it generally available to all advertisers. I believe Reddit is still relatively early in its monetization journey and has not yet reached the level of advertising performance and optimization achieved by established competitors such as Google, Amazon, and Meta. Here are some of the biggest improvements Reddit has introduced for advertisers: AI-Powered Campaign Automation Improved Audience Targeting Creative Optimization & Scalability Better Performance Measurement & Transparency Easier Adoption for Larger Advertisers & Agencies 4. Financial Metrics I believe Reddit has very attractive financial metrics that continue to trend in the right direction, despite the headwinds surrounding Google search referrals. Below are some of the financial metrics I believe are most relevant for investors to pay attention to. Revenue: Q3 2026 revenue reached $895 million, up 53% year over year. Free Cash Flow: $363 million, up 98% year over year. Balance Sheet: $3.03 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities, with no outstanding debt. Operating Margin: Increased from 23.7% to 29.2% year over year. Net Profit Margin: Increased from 27.8% to 31.7% year over year. Share Buybacks: Reddit authorized a $1 billion share repurchase program in February 2026. The company has repurchased approximately $340 million through September, with $660 million remaining under the authorization. 5. AI Licensing Revenue This section is a bit more speculative. None of these potential outcomes are set in stone, and Reddit is currently in the negotiation period for its existing AI licensing agreements. Google and OpenAI are reportedly in discussions with Reddit regarding new agreements, while Anthropic is currently involved in a lawsuit with Reddit over the alleged unauthorized use of its data. Personally, I expect Google and OpenAI to reach newly negotiated agreements in early 2027. I also believe Anthropic is likely to eventually settle its lawsuit and enter into a licensing agreement under similar terms. There are certainly scenarios where these negotiations fall through and companies decide to walk away, but I believe Reddit's data is too valuable for that to be the most likely outcome. Why I Believe Reddit Has Significant AI Licensing Potential Valuable Data: AI companies need Reddit's massive collection of human-generated conversations, opinions, and experiences. Restricted Data Access: Reddit plans to restrict remaining public Data API access in March 2027, increasing the importance of authorized commercial licensing. Growing AI Search Usage: As traditional search referrals decline and AI-powered search grows, Reddit's underlying data could become increasingly valuable. Real-Time Information: Without ongoing licensing agreements, AI companies risk relying on outdated Reddit content rather than continuously updated discussions. Increasing Pricing Power: As demand for high-quality human-generated data increases, Reddit could command higher licensing fees over time. 6. Risks Every company carries risk, and Reddit is no exception. As we have seen, Reddit's stock price can decline dramatically over a relatively short period, and the company could fall further if it loses users, fails to improve monetization, or struggles to adapt to changes in technology and AI. Below are several risks I believe investors should pay particular attention to. Key Risks Rapid Changes in AI Distribution & Communication: AI could fundamentally change how people discover, consume, and share information, potentially reducing Reddit's relevance. Stagnating Monetization Improvements: If Reddit cannot continue improving advertising performance and revenue per user, its growth and valuation could suffer. Legal & Regulatory Risk: Ongoing litigation, data privacy requirements, and changing regulations could create additional costs or restrict Reddit's ability to monetize its content. Synthetic Data & AI-Generated Content: The growing volume of AI-generated content could dilute the authenticity and quality of Reddit's discussions. Google Search Referral Dependence: Continued declines in Google referrals could negatively impact Reddit's user growth, particularly among logged-out and international users. 7. Conclusion & Price Targets I believe Reddit is a unique and compelling platform that stands to be a secondary-order beneficiary of the AI wave. Its business model, financial performance, and long-term growth opportunities make it an attractive company for long-term shareholders, and I believe its current valuation looks rather appealing. Analysts currently estimate approximately $1.75 billion in free cash flow for 2027. I believe Reddit could potentially exceed this estimate, but I will use $1.75 billion as a reference point for the following valuation scenarios. 2027 Price Targets Scenario Price Target Implied Market Cap 2027 Price-to-FCF Bear Case $150 ~$29 billion ~16.5x Base Case $200 ~$38 billion ~22x Bull Case $250 ~$48 billion ~27.5x Bear Case – $150: If user growth continues to decline and revenue growth slows significantly, both Reddit's financial performance and its long-term investment story could begin to deteriorate. Base Case – $200: Reddit continues growing revenue and profitability at healthy double-digit rates while successfully improving monetization and maintaining its competitive position. Bull Case – $250: Reddit continues exceeding growth expectations, improves monetization faster than anticipated, and successfully capitalizes on its AI licensing opportunities. I believe all three valuations are reasonable considering Reddit's potential to grow revenue and profitability well into the double digits. 2030 Long-Term Price Target: $500 Per Share I believe Reddit could generate somewhere between $4 billion and $6 billion in annual free cash flow by 2030. Based on approximately 190 million shares outstanding, a $500 share price would imply a market capitalization of roughly $95 billion. If my $4 billion to $6 billion free cash flow estimates are relatively close, I don't believe it would be unreasonable for Reddit to become a $100 billion company by 2030.
