When Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) released its quarterly report last week, it contained more than the usual financial information. The social media and artificial intelligence (AI) purveyor announced plans to create a new class of stock -- Class C shares. This non-voting stock, which is poised to begin trading early next year, will be used primarily to raise capital for its soaring AI expenses, employee compensation, and to fund potential acquisitions. Meta plans to effect a 2-for-1 stock split on Jan. 19, 2027 -- in the form of a stock dividend -- issuing one share of Class C stock to shareholders of record for each share of Class A or Class B common stock they own. Perhaps as importantly, Meta announced plans to raise a total of $95 billion to backstop its heavy investments in AI -- and the move is attracting backing from some of the biggest names in technology. Chief among them is Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), arguably the architect of the AI revolution. Just this morning, the semiconductor specialist announced plans to pour billions of dollars into Meta to fund its AI ambitions.
