Look at the iShares Core Dividend Growth ETF (NYSEMKT: DGRO) and the first number you'll likely see isn't that impressive. Its current dividend yield is 2.1%, roughly double that of the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), but also well below that of more popular funds, such as the Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (NYSEMKT: SCHD). And certainly well below what you'll find in the fixed-income exchange-traded fund (ETF) universe. It may not be a good candidate for someone looking for high income. But that misses the purpose of the portfolio. Its focus on dividend growth and balance sheet quality makes it ideal for someone looking to build a well-rounded dividend portfolio.
