Patch Me If You Can

The world is entering another new era due to the advance of AI, which some are referring to as Bugmageddon. An alarming PHP security flaw just triggered a massive global cybersecurity emergency, with the vulnerability impacting up to 70% of all websites on the internet, including platforms powered by WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla. The exploit had been hiding in the code for more than a decade, but was uncovered using frontier AI models, prompting government sites and online services to be taken offline. Quote: "In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it," Cloudflare (NET) CEO Matthew Prince declared on X. "That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now." Prior to the public disclosure, the company deployed protections to block suspicious traffic, as well as putting safeguards into place for all customers, including free-plan users. While using artificial intelligence to flesh out security vulnerabilities is nothing new, the scale at which it could do it is only growing.
