Hi All, I am on track to win a seven figure settlement with my former employer. Not finalized yet, but absolute minimum floor is $400,000 I guess so we can use that. I currently have $44,000 of disability payments yet to receive, about $10,000 total in cash in an HYSA, and a total of $80,000 in debt. No 401k because of my previous companies failure to handle ERISA duties. Since I will be receiving a mininum floor of $400,000, but likely a $1,500,000 total and it will likely be paid out monthly over the next 3-5 years (I will be receiving 6 months of backpay and 3 years of front pay as well as $40,000 in lost investments at the rate the S&P 500 did from last November to now and then going forward at approximately 8%), I will essentially just be starting fresh at 35 years old with over a million dollars. I am a Senior AI Software Engineer and I can easily get offers for $200,000 but I want to start my own consulting firm and maybe just work part time to supplement things. Any advice, please let me know. I'm not listing the interest rates on things because even with just the back pay and 3 years forward pay, I clear the $80,000 debt. The money is all tax free, or essentially, my lawyers are negotiating a final post tax number since in this case we have an admission of guilt already (a confession) so we are essentially just working out the final number. Since I will have over a million dollars at 35, I think FIRE is possible, lol. Thanks for the help?
