Micron (NASDAQ: MU), one of the world's largest producers of DRAM and NAND memory chips, is usually considered a cyclical stock. Its sales and profits soar when memory chip supplies are tight, but decline when those shortages become gluts. Investors often try to buy Micron's stock at the top of that cycle and sell it at the bottom, but those cycles are notoriously difficult to predict. But it's also tough to be a long-term investor.
