Would you care about self-custody if you never planned to use it?

Most people probably wouldn't want to manage seed phrases, hardware wallets or recovery processes themselves. That much is obvious. But imagine two financial apps that feel the same to use. With one of them, your assets can only ever exist inside the company's system. With the other, however, you can withdraw your assets to your own wallet whenever you want, even if you never actually do so. Would that option affect which app you trust?
