Wife and I are late 40s. I’m an attorney for federal government, so have TSP. She’s an entrepreneur. We have a brokerage account for the “in case of emergency” funds. Idea being relatively safe, but would like positive yields as we’re talking about close to six figures total in the account. We don’t actively trade (our other accounts are managed by an advisor). I put the money in 7 years ago when we sold our first house and haven’t touched it since. Most of the funds are split between two mini bond funds (FLAAX and GSMIX). I’m currently sitting on unrealized losses of over 13% between the two. It seems odd to me given that both have dividends every month, but the overall account balance moves down more than up. Obviously, I’ve made poor choices here. What would you do in this situation? Sell the bond funds and buy something else? Hold for potential turnaround to at least break even? I feel like a complete sucker given the t-bills are paying actual returns these days. I should have just put it all in high-yield savings but the balance gets us into a higher tier of BofA travel rewards so I haven’t wanted to move the money to Cap One. Thanks! -15
