Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is spending less money than originally planned this year. And for investors who track how much money is being poured into artificial intelligence, that might sound like bad news. But Tesla's decision to reduce its 2026 capital expenditure (capex) forecast by more than $5 billion isn't necessarily a warning about AI demand. In fact, it could be a smart move for the electric vehicle maker. The reason is simple. Tesla doesn't need to build massive amounts of computing capacity to compete with Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft.
