Here's the Average Social Security Benefit at Age 65

The average Social Security benefit for 65-year-olds is $1,607.27 per month as of December 2025, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). This age is a major milestone for Medicare eligibility, but it's no longer the baseline for a full Social Security check. If you're 65 today, your full retirement age (FRA) is 67. Social Security calculates your benefit based on your average inflation-adjusted wages from your 35 highest-earning years. It's designed to replace about 40% of your pre-retirement income, which is well short of what most seniors actually need. Most people rely on savings or other income to fill the gap.
