US lawmakers rush to derail Trump’s Russian diesel deal

Senate Democrats reportedly plan to investigate US companies involved in the deal, while Republican warhawk Brian Fitzpatrick has tabled a bill blocking Russian oil imports for good A number of American lawmakers are gearing up to jeopardize the Trump administration’s deal to ease sanctions on Russian diesel through April. They are seeking action against US companies involved in the trade and planning to block the Treasury from issuing such a waiver in the future. US President Donald Trump announced the deal earlier this month, weeks ahead of the impending November midterm elections. Under the waiver, Moscow agreed to immediately put 300,000 tons of diesel into the market, followed by larger quantities later on. The deal was reached as US diesel prices hit a record high, surging above $6.50 per gallon in September, with prices in parts of California exceeding $8.
